Nonprofit Resources
Nonprofit Resources at the local, state, and national level include:
The Cedar Valley Nonprofit Association
The Association of Fundraising Professionals
The National Council of Nonprofits
Nonprofits are especially encouraged to join the Cedar Valley Nonprofit Association (CVNA) to connect to educational, capacity building, and networking opportunities, as well as stay up to date on local funding deadlines. CVNA members can access 1:1 coaching, evaluations, website support and more through the Nonprofit Learning Lab. To inquire about financial assistance towards the CVNA membership fee, please reach out to us.
Community Resources
Some helpful community resources include:
Union Block (Black Hawk Gaming Association, McElroy Trust, Otto Schoitz Foundation, and Waterloo Community Foundation) recently hosted a community book club for the book The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. We felt empowered by the information gathered and shared, so we’ve attached a discussion guide for reference.

The McElroy Trust distributes funding to the local AEAs to support pilot projects in classrooms. Have you applied for that program already? We prefer classroom projects that are eligible go through the AEA process first. You can find those programs at the links below:

UNI Grant Applicants: Because of the potential for a large number of requests from UNI, we ask that each UNI-connected grantseeker work with the University of Northern Iowa Foundation before submitting a request. We do this for two reasons:
1. Sometimes the UNI Foundation knows of resources that are a better match for your request than the McElroy Trust.
2. The UNI Foundation prioritizes requests that come before the McElroy Trust. We have asked them to play this role.
Hillery Oberle is our contact at the UNI Foundation. Please contact her at hillery.oberle@uni.edu for assistance.
Cedar Falls & Waterloo School District Grant Applicants: Because of the potential for a large number of requests from the Cedar Falls and Waterloo School districts, we ask that each grantseeker from those respective school districts work with their school’s foundation before submitting a request. We do this for two reasons:
1. Sometimes the Cedar Falls Schools Foundation and Waterloo Schools Foundation know of resources that are a better match for your request than the McElroy Trust.
2. The Cedar Falls Schools Foundation and Waterloo Schools Foundation prioritize requests that come before the McElroy Trust. We have asked them to play this role.
